Why We Exist

To help those who are far from God find hope through a life-giving relationship with Jesus Christ.

To Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose, and Make a Difference with your life.

“Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’”

Matthew 28:18-20 NLT

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 NIV

Our Pastor

Josh Canizaro

Joshua Canizaro was born and raised in the greater New Orleans area where he began serving as a youth pastor in the summer of 1999. After pastoring in Louisiana for nearly six years, he and his wife Amber felt the Lord moving them to join the team at Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, Alabama.

Neither of them knew the miracle that they would be a part of as Church of the Highlands became one of the largest and fastest growing multi-site churches in America.

Pastor Josh has enjoyed pastoring in both Louisiana and Alabama and is most passionate about helping people who feel far from God find hope in a life-giving and fulfilling relationship with Jesus Christ. He also loves serving as a coach for the Association of Related Churches and being a part of the Grow coaching network. One Hope Church is a part of the ARC and launched in the fall of 2014.

Pastor Josh, his wife Amber, and two children believe that God has placed a calling in their hearts to lead a life-giving church in the New Orleans area.

Our Leadership

We are guided by Pastors.

Our staff team is led by our Lead Pastor Joshua Canizaro. This team oversees the day-to-day ministry and operations of the church. They serve the congregation and are responsible for the development of the spiritual life of the church. The Lead Pastoral Team members are Jackie McDonald and Stefanie Ory. The Lead Pastoral Team members serve as Staff Ministers (this team is still developing).

We are protected by Trustees.

The Trustees are members/leaders of the congregation who oversee the finances and direct the provision of the facilities needed by the church. They provide counsel to the Lead Pastoral team regarding the major financial commitments of the church. The Trustees serve as Non-staff Elders. The Trustees for One Hope Church are Chip Gardner, Heath Mendoza, and Dean Roy.

Ways to Serve

We are strengthened by Overseers.

The Overseers are pastors of nationally respected congregations and ministries who love One Hope Church and are willing to provide spiritual protection to the church. They may be called in to help in accountability matters relating to the Lead Pastor if requested by the Staff or Trustees. The Overseers serve as Apostolic Elders. The Overseers for One Hope Church are Pastor Chris Hodges, Pastor David Russell, Pastor Steve Blair (Church of the Highlands, Alabama), Pastor Hal Santos (Grace Church, Illinois), Pastor Scott Bledsoe (Household of Faith, Louisiana), and Pastor Pastor Stephen Chandler (Union Church, Maryland).

Our Beliefs

We believe that the Bible is the standard for our lives. Where it speaks clearly that's what we believe, where it is unclear we look for principles to apply, and when principles are hard to find we seek the wisdom of our Christian forefathers.

We believe that every person needs to surrender their lives to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The Bible refers to this change of heart as being saved or born-again (Ephesians 2:8, John 3:3).

We believe that God desires to bless us in every way so that we can be a blessing to the world around us.

We believe that all Christians regardless of history or heritage should strive in essential beliefs to find unity, in non-essential beliefs to give liberty, and in all our beliefs to have charity.

We believe that Jesus is the Son of God and everything in faith begins and ends with this truth.
