Who Do We Honor

Part 2 of Honor
Josh Canizaro
May 20, 2018
(Romans 12:10 ESV) “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”
(1 Peter 2:17 NIV) “Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.”
1. Honor others.
(Philippians 2:3-4 NIV) “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
2. Honor authority.
(Romans 13:1-2 NIV) “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.”
✓ Government.
✓ Workplace/school.
✓ Family.
✓ Spiritual.
3. Honor parents.
(Ephesians 6:2-3 NIV) “Honor your father and mother”--which is the first commandment with a promise—“that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
4. Honor age.
(Leviticus 19:32 NIV) “Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD.”
(Job 12:12 NIV) “Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?”
5. Honor nature.
(Genesis 1:28 NIV) “God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
6. Honor God.
(Psalm 29:2 NIV) “Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.”
How do we honor?
✓ Prioritize it.
(Proverbs 3:9 MSG) “Honor GOD with everything you own; give him the first and the best.”

✓ Praise it.

(James 3:9-10 NIV) “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.”
✓ Protect it.

(John 7:18 NIV) “He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.”
