Part 6 of The Genius of Jesus
Josh Canizaro
July 19, 2015
(Proverbs 14:10 NIV) Each heart knows its own bitterness.
(Matthew 9:36 NIV) When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
(Mark 12:24 NLT) Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.”
His Willingness
1. Turning Water into Wine
(John 2:7-9 NIV) Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.
He cares about the small things.
2. Healing the Nobleman’s Son
(John 4:50-53 NIV) “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed. While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.” Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.
He has impeccable timing.
3. Healing at the Pool of Bethesda
(John 5:6, 7, 9 NIV) When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
He works in the most dire situations.
4. Feeding the Five Thousand
(John 6:11-13 NIV) Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
His ability is without end.
5. Walking on Water
(John 6:19-21 NIV) When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened. But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.
He still does the supernatural.
6. Healing the Blind Man
(John 9:6, 7 NIV) After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.
He heals through His creation.
7. Raising Lazarus from the Dead
(John 11:4, 33, 35, 36, 38-40 NIV) When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. “Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.” Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”
He is moved to meet our need powerfully.
Our Part
(John 20:30-31 NIV) Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Remove the barriers.
(John 20:27 NIV) Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
Request His miraculous power.
(John 14:12-14 NIV) I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Remember the glory belongs to Him.
(Psalm 115:1 NIV) Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.
