Trinity: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19 NLT
Each have distinct roles but are the same in character, nature, and attribute.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 NIV
“Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” Luke 19:9-10 NLT
1. He is not an it.
“But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you.” 1 John 2:27 NLT
2. He is not weird.
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter that he may abide with you forever.” John 14:16 KJV
3. He is my inner voice.
“When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.” John 16:8 NIV
4. He is my teacher.
“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26 NIV
5. He is my guide.
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” John 16:13 NIV
6. He is my friend.
“The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you.” 2 Corinthians 13:14 MSG
“Don’t grieve God. Don’t break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted. Ephesians 4:30 MSG
The Holy Spirit is God’s answer to our powerlessness.
✓ Holy Spirit show me.
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” Ezekiel 36:26-27 NIV
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24 NIV
✓ Holy Spirit change me.
“For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom... And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.” 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NLT
✓ Holy Spirit fill me.
“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18 NIV
“And the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 13:52 NASB
Being filled with the Holy Spirit doesn’t make me better than you, it makes me better than me.
